Use official instructions to decide whether an outing or journey can proceed. A rain icon, an old social post and an operator’s cancellation notice are different kinds of information. This guide helps organise the checks; it does not assess whether a closed path or disrupted route is safe to use.
Check three different sources

Check the notice’s date before forwarding it to another traveller. A warning for a different province or last month’s cancelled departure should not become the basis of today’s plan.
Protect the fixed booking first
- Identify the flight, train or accommodation access you cannot casually miss.
- Check the status of that exact service with its operator.
- Save the notice and original booking reference.
- Use the original seller’s change/refund channel if a change is needed.
- Only then rebuild the optional sightseeing around the updated journey.

Replace an activity with something reachable and open
An indoor destination is only a useful fallback if the route to it is operating and the venue is open. Compare a nearby museum or activity with staying close to the accommodation; do not cross a disrupted city merely to preserve a full itinerary.
Follow closure signs and local authority instructions. Do not enter a closed riverside path, coastal access or flooded area to see whether the warning is “really necessary.” If authorities give evacuation or shelter instructions, follow those rather than a travel-plan preference.
Keep the essentials accessible
- Booking references, hotel address and provider contact information.
- A charged phone and a way to read the key information offline.
- Travel documents and essential personal items carried with you rather than in a bag being delivered separately.
- A workable payment fallback for an authorised change in transport or accommodation.
Before resuming the original plan
A forecast improving does not automatically reopen a venue or restore a cancelled service. Check the operator or authority’s current update, then confirm any changed ticket or room arrangement. Avoid assuming an old reservation remains usable after a refund or rebooking.
