Finish five checks before boarding: your entry documents, arrival declaration if required, working phone plan, first transport payment and hotel entry arrangements. This checklist ends when you can leave the airport with a usable route and a confirmed destination.
Check the entry requirement and arrival declaration separately
Your permission to enter Korea and your arrival declaration are different tasks. Use the official K-ETA or visa information applicable to your passport before booking. An e-Arrival card does not replace a visa or travel authorization.
The Ministry of Justice’s declaration guidance distinguishes K-ETA holders from people exempt from K-ETA; exemption from applying for K-ETA does not automatically mean exemption from an arrival declaration. It also notes an exception for a K-ETA holder entering with a visa. Use the official navigator with the documents valid for your arrival, rather than guessing from your nationality alone.
The official guide says filing opens three days before arrival, in Korean Standard Time, and the e-Arrival card is free. Have your passport, email, arrival/departure information and Korean accommodation address ready. Declaration guide, checked September 7, 2026.
Before departure: save a small offline arrival pack
- Passport and the entry permission required for your trip; keep the original available for inspection.
- Flight number, arrival date in Korea and arrival terminal.
- Hotel booking name, address in Korean, contact details and any late-entry instructions.
- Phone activation instructions and support contact, without putting passwords or QR credentials in public shared folders.
- Your chosen airport route and one alternative, with the operator’s current departure information.
A date shown as 00:30 belongs to the new calendar day. Check that the hotel understands your actual arrival date if you land near midnight; a flight landing on Tuesday shortly after midnight is not a Tuesday-afternoon check-in.
At the airport: complete these in order
- Complete the required arrival procedures and collect your checked bag. The timetable decision starts when you are ready to travel, not when the aircraft touches down.
- Make your phone usable. Turn off Wi-Fi briefly to test mobile data if your plan is active; open a map search and a message.
- Set up the payment needed by the specific first ride. A rail ticket, ordinary transport-card balance and a prepaid shopping balance are not interchangeable.
- Check the route’s direction, terminal-specific stand and departure. Buy the correct ticket before leaving the ticketing area when the operator requires it.
- Tell the accommodation if your arrival estimate has materially changed. Keep the full address available for the final walk or taxi.

- Gimhae arrival: airport rail and Busan transfers.
- Phone not ready: eSIM/SIM features and activation checks.
- Unsure what to carry: a worked cash reserve and physical T-money setup.
- Too early for the room: station storage and collection deadlines.
A finished arrival plan should fit on one screen
Write: “I arrive at [terminal] on [Korea date]. My first route is [operator/stop], paid by [ticket/card]. If I miss it, I use [confirmed alternative]. The hotel expects me at [time] and its Korean address is [address].” If one of those blanks is unresolved, fix that part before adding sightseeing plans.
