Choose the services first, then the SIM format. If you only need maps and internet messaging, a compatible data plan may be enough. If a hotel or reservation requires a Korean call or SMS, confirm those functions explicitly. Having an eSIM does not itself tell you whether a phone number, outgoing calls or identity verification are included.
Four questions that decide the purchase

A checked example: LG U+ Data + Voice eSIM
On September 7, 2026, the official English product page displayed LTE examples of ₩18,000 for three days and ₩27,500 for five days. A 20-minute domestic voice option was ₩5,500, with SMS charges deducted from that call balance. A five-day plan plus that option therefore totals ₩33,000 before any applicable promotion.
The page requires passport verification at an airport counter for voice service and says its eSIM cannot be used for identity verification. Those are different checks: the counter’s passport check activates the purchased service; it does not make the number suitable for every Korean identity-verification flow.
We inspected the public plan options; we did not buy or activate a SIM. Prices, speed options and promotions can change. Use the final selected plan’s total, not a promotional starting price for another duration.
eSIM versus a removable card

Installation is not the same as the start of validity
For the LG U+ example, the page says activation must occur within 60 days of purchase and the usage period starts when data is first used. Its five-day example runs from a stated hour to the same hour five days later. Do not apply that rule to another provider without checking.
- Before travel, confirm device compatibility and the carrier-unlocked state. Save the order and installation instructions privately.
- Use a reliable internet connection for installation. Keep the home SIM and travel SIM clearly labelled.
- On arrival, complete any required counter verification and select the intended data line.
- Test a website without Wi-Fi. Separately test the calling or messaging function you paid for.
- Check that home-line data roaming will not create an unintended charge.
If activation fails
Do not delete the eSIM as a first troubleshooting step. LG U+ warns that a downloaded eSIM cannot simply be restored or moved to another device. Check the selected data line and the provider’s installation instructions, then contact support over available Wi-Fi with the order reference and error description. Do not send passport images or QR credentials to public forums.
