Choose the travel month by the conditions you want to manage. Temperature, rain risk, opening hours and your outdoor plans matter more than naming one universal “best season.” Use climate information to shortlist a period, then use a current forecast for the actual journey.
What the published temperature examples show
The Korea Tourism Organization’s climate page gives the following Seoul average-high/average-low examples. They are climate reference values, not a forecast or a promised range for every day.

Match the season to the kind of day you want
- Long outdoor walking days: compare milder periods first, but retain a wet-weather alternative.
- Summer travel: avoid making every activity depend on a long exposed midday walk. Put indoor breaks into the route.
- Winter travel: account for cold mornings/evenings and the practical burden of coats and luggage.
- A fixed festival or event: confirm its actual dates and booking conditions before choosing the whole trip around a seasonal expectation.
Season changes the available sightseeing window
For example, the Gyeongbokgung listing shows a 17:00 winter closing time in November–February, compared with 18:00 in March–May and September–October, and 18:30 in June–August. Last admission is earlier. Palace hours. A late-afternoon palace stop therefore needs different timing by season.
Keep the opening-hours check attached to the actual attraction. A city-wide seasonal summary cannot establish every museum, garden or trail’s operating schedule.
A simple selection worksheet
- List the two activities that most influence the trip.
- Decide which weather conditions would make those activities unpleasant or impractical for you.
- Compare the climate reference for the city you will actually use as a base.
- Check the venue’s seasonal hours and any fixed event dates.
- Keep at least one nearby alternative that does not depend on the same weather condition.
Before departure
Use KMA’s current weather information for your dates and destinations. Revisit luggage, footwear and the order of outdoor/indoor days if the forecast differs from the climate reference.
The Seoul itinerary provides a route that can be reordered around closures. For disruption rather than ordinary discomfort, follow official weather and service notices instead of treating a seasonal average as a safety decision.
